#MyHRDiary: Career Management
When people hear the word ‘Career Management’, they imagine it’s one of those big tasks that HR Professionals are meant to help them with.
I never really experienced the importance of personal career management until I had an experience with helping a large organization conduct a staff audit a while back and it opened my eyes to how lots of mid and senior Professionals take it for granted.
Personal Career Management involves taking ownership of your career like you’re the CEO. Reading the book ‘Think like an entrepreneur, act like a CEO’ changed my mentality and my career as a whole
Think about it:
- Do you have a defined plan for your career?
- What certification are you required to take and when ?
- How much time and money do you set aside for personal development ?
- Do you know when to stay or leave an organization ?
During the audit, I saw Professionals who were at the same spot for over 5-8years and they never saw the importance of growth. At this critical time, this is an opportunity to upskill so as to FUTURE PROOF your career because things would definitely change after the pandemic.
What steps have you started taking to manage your career properly?
