#MyHRDiary: Proud HR Moments

Yesterday was International Human Resource Day and I was too busy at work to write something down

But when I saw the image, I decided to shrug off the laziness and write (I’m sure by now you would know I enjoy writing and sharing my experience)

So why is International HR day worth celebrating? You may have had a bad experience with your own HR and I’m not trying to make excuses for people who are paid to be HR but have no clue what it really means

So let me just celebrate myself and my colleagues who are indeed professionals.

I would say HR found me. While doing my school SIWES, I was literally forced to move to the HR department. What I thought was punishment was actually DESTINY because that was the beginning of my journey

Anyway, why am I proud to work in HR:

1. I get to impact lives. This is not just about what I do at CareerLife, it’s beyond that. I get to work with AMAZING Employees and my actions or inactions get to impact their career and Destiny.

One I’m grateful for was when a cleaner wanted to transition into other things. My ability to see beyond processes and structure but taking a risk on her to move to customer service is something I’m proud of.

Today she’s doing an AMAZING job and I’m so grateful I get to hold an office that can make such decisions

2. I get to inspire people to take action. Beyond what we do to instill the culture through the mission, vision and core values. I don’t just manage people by telling them how to behave. I model it by inspiring them to take the necessary action.

Through recognizing, rewarding, training, consistent and constructive feedback, people who have worked with me have been inspired to take charge

3. I get to be FULLY involved with the business. Regardless of the title I carry as HR or “People and Culture”, I always see myself as the CEO

Why? If I am to take an action or inaction, I ask myself. If I was the one that heavily invested my life savings to start this business, what would I do ?

So most times, I leave my glorified HR office and get fully involved with operations offering advice, helping them with process restructuring, removing bottlenecks and just supporting the business more beyond what’s on my JD.

My role gets to impact the business in different ways and I’m proud of that.

This is not to say that my journey has been a smooth one. If I share my turmoils with you, you would be shocked on how I’m able to carry myself so strong and show up fully despite what I have been through. But I’m grateful because it has built resilience in me.

Honestly, I love what I do and I’m grateful to God for choosing this career path for me🙌
